When people first start to consider a career in hairdressing, they often wonder what it will be like.  They want to know what to expect so they can prepare themselves.  Being a hairdresser is something different for everyone, but there are still certain things you can expect when you are a hairdresser in the UK.

You Will Make Friends

Making friends when you are a hairdresser is unavoidable.  You will work with the same people every day in an atmosphere that promotes socializing.  Because of this, you are sure to make some wonderful friends. 

You will be amazed by how quickly people bond when they work in a salon together.  The atmosphere is very friendly and inviting, which allows people to open up to one another and get to know their co-workers quicker than in other environments.

You Will Put in a Full Day’s Work

While a salon is a fun environment to work in, you can also expect to put in a full day’s work each day you are there.  Salons are busy places.  While you will get to socialize while you work, you are still expected to work.

Depending on the salon you work at, you might not get much of a break from customers all day long.  Then, when you do get a break, you will need to clean up your station.  You will need to sweep up the hair, put up the supplies and get ready for the next customer.  With the exception of your lunch break, you will probably not get much rest when you are on the clock.

You Will Be On Your Feet

One thing that people often do not think about in regards to working in a salon is they will be required to be on their feet quite a bit.  Because of that, people need to prepare themselves.  They need to wear shoes that are supportive so they will not have the aches associated with having a job that requires you to stand on your feet a lot.

You Will Hear the Town Gossip

Possibly one of the best things about being a hairdresser is you get to hear the inside information.  You will learn all about the people in the town by cutting hair.  It is amazing the amount of information people will release while at the salon.  If you keep your ears open, you will really get the opportunity to hear some interesting things.

You Will Have an Important Place in the Community

People tend to respect their hairdresser.  They go to her in order to look great, and they also confide in her.  Hairdressers are an important part of the community, and you will get to be a part of that when you become one.

You will get to share in all of the things hairdressers get to enjoy.  You will meet members of the community, learn about their families and friends, and also help to make them feel better about themselves by giving them a great look.

As a hairdresser in the UK you will have a place.  You will be an important part of the lives of many people, and it is a job you can be proud of having.
